Our first serious home improvement project of 2020 is done! Well, almost done. The big stuff is complete, so to me that counts as done. We just have to add some finishing touches to the decor which should only take one million trips to various home stores, a thorough amazon search, and me changing my mind one hundred times.
My project manager and husband Vin really did an amazing job. He painted and did other stuff to the walls that I don’t know the technical terms for. This also required the purchase of a new ladder but he was also able to clean the fan while he was up there, so the ladder was actually worth it. I don’t have any photos of him working on the space because he works like any other Italian/American guy I know( In a white tank top and slippers.) And apparently he “Doesn’t want the internet to see him like that”.
The Den is one of the most used rooms in our house but it is also the smallest. We eat the majority of our meals in there, watch tv, etc. We used to have a high top 4 person table in here which worked great when the kids were secured in high chairs. But a wiggly two year old in a high top chair for every meal isn’t my ideal dining option.
I wanted something that would maximize our space but also gave us more options when it came to seating. I knew I wanted a breakfast nook with corner seating after various google searches and Pinterest browsing sessions. I found ALOT of options that I loved. But as per usual, most were very expensive. ( I have the ability to pick out the most expensive thing anywhere: it’s a gift and a curse.) Then, I found this one on Wayfair.
After I saw this one, I knew it was going to be a piece I was going to be able to make my own. We (Vin) stained it, and we added chairs instead of the bench. (Not sure where that’s going to go now but I’m sure I will find a place for it.) It is also surprisingly super sturdy. I have high hopes that it will be able to withstand the kids. So now, in just about the same amount of space we sat four, we can now seat 5 to 6! (It’s also super cozy to sit and drink my coffee in the morning which is a big win for me!)
I also updated our mantle decor for this room, added new pillow covers, and a new throw blanket.
We also used to have swag style curtains in this room but Rose felt they worked better as a napkin. So, I’m still trying to figure out what to do in place of those guys. But for now, we are just enjoying our new and improved space!
Hope you have a great weekend!
