Quick Clean Routine

Do you make up crazy cleaning rules for yourself? If yes, then welcome to the club! If not, I have a list of questions for you like “What’s it like not living in a prison of your own making?”

I actually find I do this with a lot of things but we won’t get into that now. That’s for me and a licensed therapist to figure out I think.

Anyway, every other week I do what I refer to as a “big clean”. This includes every room and involves dusting, vacuuming, etc. Now, before children I could just do the big clean every other week and it would be fine. But, now that I have two kids and they are seemingly always sticky and leave every room looking like a devastating (but cute) hurricane whipped through I do a mid week quick clean to get us (me) through to the next week.

Now, I know what you are thinking. I could totally just clean the house every other week and it would be fine. Yea.  You’re right, I could. But also, rules. And I would like to not gag while cleaning the toilets.

This routine usually takes me about an hour and half depending on how messy things got. (This does not include the playroom as that is under it’s own jurisdiction.)

I also use this same routine to spiff up around the house before guests (pre-Covid) because it covers all the general things that make your house feel clean and refreshed. It also takes way less time than doing a “big clean”. I follow the list in order too. Instead of fully cleaning one room at a time, I walk around the house and pick up and put everything away collecting and putting away things as I go. Then, once everything is put back in it’s place I grab some disinfectant and do all the high touch areas of the house. After that it’s the kitchen counters, dishes, and so on. I also use this as a designated time to re-fill and organize my pantry. (Award yourself bonus points if you time this correctly with food shopping too.)

This has been a really effective way for me to maintain the house from week to week so I thought I would make it pretty and put it up here for you to use too. You can download it here:

Oh! And if you haven’t finished putting away your Christmas and Holiday decorations like me here are some organization tags for you!
